I’m 63 and been retired about two years now. Got my IRA sitting at a brokerage, somewhere around $85k give or take, nothing crazy. The last couple months I’ve been looking into moving a chunk of it into physical metals, mostly because the names you hear everywhere, Goldco and American Hartford, feel a bit too polished to me.

Orion Metal Exchange came up when I was poking around online last week. Never heard of them before. I pulled up some reviews and the ratings look pretty good, maybe too good honestly, which is partly why I’m asking here instead of just picking up the phone.

Has anyone on here actually dealt with them. I’d like to know what the process felt like, especially how reasonable they were on pricing above spot. And if there’s anything that bit folks later on, custodian setup or fees that weren’t spelled out, I’d rather hear it now than find out later. Not in a rush. Thanks.

We don’t see much on Orion in the complaint threads here. The handful that have come through were about service back-and-forth. The review record we pulled last week was clean enough that we haven’t opened a dedicated thread on them yet.

On fees, I’d ask for a written quote showing the coin and the price above spot, plus the custodian side spelled out line by line. The ones that catch people later are usually storage (segregated runs higher than commingled) and what it costs to liquidate or transfer out.

For what the forum has gathered on Orion and other companies, the forum’s list of companies is here on the site.
