Heard the Birch Gold ad on the drive home again and finally started looking into what it would actually take to move part of my IRA into physical metals. I’m 49, retired a couple years back, and the IRA’s at a regular brokerage right now. Thinking maybe 50k over to start, nothing crazy.
The part I can’t figure out is the custodian side of it. I think the custodian is who holds the account on paper and then the metal itself sits at a depository somewhere, but I’m not sure how much say you actually get on either one. Every company’s site I’ve looked at basically just names one or two and moves on, which doesn’t help if you want to compare.
For anyone who’s gone through this with Birch or any of the other ones, did you pick the custodian yourself or did the company just assign you one? Any names worth looking into, or any to stay away from? Thanks in advance.
